On a cold and wet Saturday at the end of January, members’ of the organising committee of the Isleport Steam and Vintage Working Show, held at Isleport Farm near Highbridge last July, attended at the operating base of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance at Henstridge near Templecombe to present a donation for £550.
The Air Ambulance had a stand at the show and raised £450 for their funds.
The committee thought it would be nice to match that sum and in fact decided to make the amount up to £1000.
As part of their visit they enjoyed viewing the Helicopter and the explanation given to them by the crew of their work and equipment.
The members had already made a donation to Macmillan for £1000 from fund raising and selling refreshments at the show.
This was organised by Denise Hoggart from Weston super Mare and her willing band of ladies, in memory of her sister, Diane Whaites.
Mike Lawrence, who owns Isleport Farm, Nr Highbridge, where the show is held, said: “We had a very successful show which was the first that we have organised.
"It was well supported by the public from around the area, who enjoyed their day out and our friendly village atmosphere."
He praised the committee for their hard work to put the show on and said: “Our success has made us want to run another event in 2014, and once again any surplus will allow us to help support our favourite charities."
The Isleport Steam and Vintage Working, which features old time haymaking, harvesting and ploughing, plus tractor pulling, will take place at Isleport Farm, Nr Highbridge on Saturday July 26 and Sunday July 27 2014.
The organisers would welcome people with exhibits who may be willing to attend and they are asked to contact Ed Jones, Secretary on email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 07969093604 for an entry form
