Monday, October 21, 2013
MATCH REPORT: Winscombe Ladies 2nd XI 3, Taw Valley 2nd XI 1
Winscombe 2nd XI dominated from the start to see off their Taw Valley counterparts.
The team adapted well to a new formation, with the midfield of Niamh Hyden, Georgina Catlow, Alice Sloman and Amy Knapman looking comfortable in their new roles.
A well-taken opening goal from Becky Matthews after 15 minutes gave Winscombe confidence, with Izzy Savage and Trudie Lynham causing problems on the right.
Rachel Wallace jumped on a wide ball from Jo Horwood to go on the attack, taking the opportunity well to double the lead.
The second half was a similar story, with the addition of Chantelle Miell and Jade Barry helping Combe in midfield. Barry and Matthews combined well to win a penalty corner and the determination of Matthews sent the ball into the roof of the net.
The back-line were called into action several times towards the end of the game but Savage, Horwood, Wallace and Jodie Honour stood strong. Keeper and captain Vicki Pagett put in a strong performance, marshalling the defence and clearing her lines firmly when called upon.
However, a momentary lapse in concentration allowed the visitors to scramble the ball over the line at the death.
John Hodge Solicitors player of the match: Izzy Savage.
